labwork… rd: Pre-compose
another new one in the lab is rd: Pre-compose, a variation of the built-in Pre-compose command, but with the ability to specify head and tail handles for subsequent trimming. this one was requested by Gary Jaeger back in january, but has been on simmer until now (i.e., until i had an excuse for releasing labwork
). as usual, feel free to leave your feedback (input, requests, bug reports, etc.) in the comments.

Hello! rd: Pre-compose is very cool and usefull script, i searching for a lot time, thanx for a good job! Can you made another one version of that script – processing all of layers in a composition or selected layers to rd:Pre-compose with autonaming with a template (Pre-comp_name+#). Or 2 different scripts – layers processor: to process choosed script for all layers – layer by layer (such as image processor script in photoshop). Sorry for my bad english:)

hi sergey,
i’ve been working on an update that would allow batch pre-composing (based on a request from another user), so i’ll see if i can add the renaming support with that. i don’t have an estimate for when it’ll be done, though.
thanks for your interest in this script.

Hi, Redefinery,
Cool Script and it works!. it is very useful. Thanks!
Question:
I have already installed the rd_pre-comopose but i could not understand to do this “It can be used as a dockable panel by placing the script in a ScriptUI Panels subfolder of the Scripts folder, and then choosing this script from the Window menu.” Could you tell me how to place the script in a ScriptUI?
Thanks again
Silvio

hi silvio,
this script displays a modal dialog box, and so shouldn’t be installed in the ScriptUI Panels folder. it doesn’t work as a dockable panel. the first version might’ve mentioned that erroneously, but should’ve been fixed in v0.91.
just run the script by choosing File > Scripts > Run Script File, then selecting the file. hope that helps.

First of all thanks for a great script. It’s one of my most used scripts now. And I appreciate your work and dedication to your scripts.
Now my question, when I use your script with a footage layer that doesn’t start from the beginning(say the middle of the footage) and select leave all attributes(with or without trim selected), the layer is shifted. Is that the same as the problem you explained with a negatively stretched layer?
If not, is there a workaround to this? Right now I am running it from a Launch Pad Script UI. I’ve also tried running it from File > Scripts > Run Script File. Same thing happens.
Thank you for your time.

hi anthony,
does your footage layer have a non-100% stretch applied to it? if so, can you send me a sample project with just that layer? (send to redefinery@hotmail.com) no footage is needed.
thanks.

Hello ,
is it possible via this script to keep the handles of the source layer that is being precomposed,(the parts that are outwards inpoint and outpoint)
without having to specify the duration for each
and keep these values to apply them on the precomped layer ?
sorry for my english
do you understand what i mean?
it would be very usefull for conforming a premiere or edl timeline.
especially to begin cleanup before the final cut is done,
it would be great to adapt it for scriptsUI too
Thanks

hi pyfave,
i think i know what you mean. are you wanting each layer to be precomposed separately, or that the group of layers would be precomposed together? in either case, it might be complex to retain that information. i’ll add it to my to-do list as a possible feature.
thanks.
